THE OSHKOSH 1070F TRACTOR
The tractor is an eight-wheel drive, purpose built military specification tractor unit. The Oshkosh 1070F tractor is powered by a 700bhp, 18 litre Caterpillar engine, fully compliant with EU regulations.
It can operate in the harshest conditions, having proved itself in Iraq and Afghanistan, and can pull loads up to its maximum operating weight of 118 tonnes.
FTX Logistics operates 92 vehicles.
KING GTS 100 TRAILER
The purpose-built British trailer unit was manufactured by King Trailers of Market Harborough and was the first 7 axle, self-levelling steerable trailer designed and produced in the UK. It has a payload capacity of 72 tonnes.
The trailer is 17.285m long with a load bed 12.5m long x 2.89m wide.
HEAVY GOODS VEHICLES
The principal contract is to provide HET capability. However, when not required for HET operations, Operator spare capacity is outsourced to third party transport agencies. As Operators are all C+E qualified, they will generally drive Class 1 articulated HGV for clients within a 30-mile radius of their home location.
ESCORT VEHICLES
HET convoys are usually accompanied by one or more escort vehicles. These provide both support and assistance to the HETs in transit, as well as warn other road users of approaching outsize loads. This is an additional skill and is carried out by City & Guilds qualified task supervisors.
